Because if I don't like it anymore or something happens to it, I give it back (VW puts GAP in all of its leases).

And if I want to buy it, then It's like buying a 3 year old used car that I know the history on and how it's been taken care of.

I think leasing is a great idea for new cars. If you're going to pay for depreciation at least leave yourself the opportunity to not have to pay for all of it.

When we bought my wife's CX-5, the dealer practically begged us to lease rather than buy, which I found odd.

Well that's all you're paying for with a lease. The fundamental amount of a lease is the depreciation over the time and miles you've allotted. Plus the interest on the money. The easiest way to think about the last part is as a "user's fee".

Yes and no. Leasing is a win-win for customers and salespeople. You pay a lower monthly price, and they're pretty much guaranteed at least a shot of selling you a new car in 3-4 years.

Yeah, I think it's a great way to approach new cars because in my opinion you should only buy a car if you want to own it forever and you'll be more sure of it after a lease.

That's why they wanted us to lease, I bet. So we would be back. We keep cars forever, though. So we just bought it and now it's paid off and will be here until it starts falling apart.

I bought the GLI with money on the spot. I like that way better, but since I know 99.99% of people can't do that, leasing is a good alternative

Or if you intend to drive more miles than a lease would allow.

ALL OF THE ROAD TRIPS!

You can do a 20k/year lease.

That wouldn't help me any... I'm celebrating my one-year anniversary with my Mazda tomorrow, and I've put 45,000 on her, in that time.

This, plus they usually receive a bonus from the bank for closing a leasing contract.
